'Going tribal' is soon to introduce a unique form of luxury eco-tourism to the world. That is, to bring to you a taste of a time long past and a glimpse of village life as it was in the Middle ages and time before. The concept of 'going tribal' is to let you the guest experience and participate in the relaxed rural life in the heart of the tribal district of Orissa while indirectly bringing much needed attention and opportunities to these indigenous people ( Adivasi) and their habitats.

Going tribal is constructing a small village of ten luxury rooms within a "cottage industry" village in this tribal area. The village is to be styled on the local tribal villages but, within a walled garden setting with climate control in each room, television, direct satellite link etc with a 5 star kitchen open to the dining area for the guests interaction. The food will be predominately seasonal and organic as in this area very few, if any, chemical pesticides and fertilizers have been used.

Going Tribal

This luxury village accommodation will be part of a fully serviced eco-tour package that is as flexible in structure as in length. Before breakfast go for a walk and watch the world come alive as you have never seen before, during the day visit any number of markets while stopping off at villages of the different tribes and crafts in the varying locations while in the evenings relax and enjoy dinner and the world as it sounded and looked centuries ago. Going tribal tours are new and innovative giving you more than tours of roadside villages and markets. With our daily tours we go a little deeper to discover the India of old and the India unseen, we go on a tour back in time.

The main village creates the terra cotta pots and utensils for daily use in the surrounding area and these are sold at the local weekly market or "haat". You can experience at first hand the traditional craft of pottery making on a daily basis and even participate if you so desire. The surrounding area and the host village is a reasonably developed mixed rural area for this part of Orissa but still very under developed in comparison with most of India. Setting up a permanent facility such as this in an undeveloped tribal village is not an option for many reasons, the most important being that the village and its peoples would very soon lose their identity, culture and dignity.

ACCOMMODATION

The luxury a/c guest rooms are built as houses of the Kandha tribe in a 'family' compound discreetly placed in a secluded part of the village.
The kitchen will serve multi cuisine vegetarian and non vegetarian meals prepared in separate areas using local organic produce where possible. The dining area is overlooking the guests rooms and garden on one side and to the kitchen on another. This international menu is part of the fully serviced package, most special diets can be accommodated with prior consultation.
Where possible the employees of the operation will be of the local villages and surrounds as will most materials used in the construction and operation of this unique tourism venture.

Operations begin 4th quarter of 2005.
